Discovery Place

If you haven't been to the Children's Discovery Place in Tyler, you should go!

This was a while ago but I was browsing through pictures and couldn't resist.  Doesn't Nonie look youthful?

The whole place is divided into several sections, our favorite being 'Hometown USA'.  Different businesses in Tyler contributed certain kid-sized 'parts' of the town such as a grocery store...

Mini shopping carts=toddler LOVE.

A real ambulance

Nonie getting her loan from the bank.

A post office etc.

The other section we visited was a bunch of hands on puzzles, a climbing wall, a toddler play area and much more.

Our buddy Noah joined us halfway through.
Getting three toddlers to look at a camera at one time is laughable.

A good time was had by all.  And then they crashed.

Happy Birthday, Bean

Our little bean turned one year old on Sunday.  I'm not quite sure where this past year went, exactly.  I'm pretty sure it was only a few months ago that Rob was careening down Broadway to the birthing center, trying to navigate the cobblestone streets of downtown without causing her to shoot out right there in the floorboard.

Still the same big grin, every day, each time I look at her.

She's already ahead of Wyatt, milestone-wise.  She started crawling about a month ago and in the past few days has pulled up to standing on things.  A favorite is crawling under Wyatt's bed.
She's juuust the right size to crawl under and sit.

Wyatt has to be careful not to bonk his noggin but he loves playing with her under there.

Yesterday evening I was washing dishes and the kids had come into the kitchen to play with the cookie cutters and several pans that mommy lets them play with.  There was a lot of giggling and squealing and I smiled to myself and kept washing.  But then I turned around and saw this.

She had crawled up onto the dishwasher to play in the water!

They're like, "What? Is something wrong?"

It's Fummer Here In Texas

Yes, fummer.  That's Fall/Summer.

Case in point- a couple days ago we went to 'wing and swyde in da pawk.'  We'd been inside a lot of the day and everybody needed to get out and about.  You know Ella has been sporting a lot of tights and swing tops so I can pretend it's cool like I mentioned before.

Ella and Witten sharing a single jogging stroller.

Well thank goodness they both had shorts on that day.  We got there and sweated on the swings for a while.  Then Wyatt saw the splash pad and said he wanted to go swim.  At first I told him we couldn't since we didn't bring our swimsuits (and since mommy is locked in an epic battle with the weather, literally willing it to be cold, I wasn't thinking summer thoughts).  But then I remembered...

I had extra swim diapers in the car!
So we went swimming nekky.  Plus a bow.

Because no one else was there.

The Second Tri

Rob completed his second triathlon this past Saturday.  To say I'm proud of him is an understatement.

This was a sprint distance tri which means a:
-750 meter swim (1/2 mile)
-20K bike
-5K run

A friend from church, Matt, competed too and they both did great!! They started the swim right off of a spillway and my camera was at max zoom with our super zoom lens.  He's the one with his arms raised fixing his swim cap.  Matt was in the old man wave of contestants that was after Rob's.  Joke, joke, we're just really young. ;)

Just out of the water and running to the transition area to get on his bike.

She was with him in spirit.

During the bike section we had a lot of down time since the biking course was quite a ways from the finish area.  We kind of had to choose to take biking pics or pics of them running and finishing.  Lori had a blanket so they entertained Ella while Wyatt and I played soccer.  Ella had a preoccupation with Ms. Lori's empty coffee mug...

Just starting his 5K.  He ended up running 7 minute miles!

Mr. Matt hi-fiving Jillian.

Rob came in somewhere in the 60's out of 295!

The victor.

Woot-woot!  I think Matt was 69th?

Colette and the kids came out to see the guys finish and brought warm donuts right out of the oven!

Way to go honey, we're so proud of you!

Longing for Fall

Maybe someday we'll live in a place with four real seasons.  Including the elusive fall and spring.  Because here in east Texas, we've got summer. A lot of it. And winter.
Or summer and a harsh fall.

I mean Phillipians 4:11 and all, I'm working on it.

So during nap time today instead of mopping the floors I pinned an Autumn board and looked up cheap flights to Chicago and Seattle.  Chicago because a sweet friend of mine is an incredibly talented professional dancer who performs at the Paramount Theatre- currently she's Cha-Cha in Grease!!

And Seattle, well Seattle because of Sleepless in Seattle and Emily Jones Design blogged about lattes and cool weather.  And because as a kid we took a vacation which I completely did not fully appreciate to Alaska and on the way we stopped in Seattle and visited Pike's Place market.  And I've wanted to go back ever since.

But if I went back you can bet I'd post an extra large picture of me in fall boots and a scarf standing in front of the original Starbucks.  Ahhhhh.

Rob told me we probably couldn't take a last minute trip and leave our nursing daughter to be abruptly and rudely weaned.  Plus he's swamped.  But as a consolation prize he agreed to watch You've Got Mail with me!  Because it's a fall movie.

"Don't you just love fall? It makes me want to shop for back to school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address."

Gah.  Thank you Tom Hanks.  Gets me every time.  :)

I've even started dressing Wyatt in jeans and Ella in long sleeve tunic dresses with tights.  Maybe if I represent fall to the general public then the weather will cooperate?

Despite the lack of cool weather and scarves in my life right now there is MUCH to be thankful and excited for.  Rob runs his second triathlon tomorrow!  He's excited and nervous and I'm really excited!  I'll take lots of pics.

I just started a fantastic Bible study with a great group of ladies called The Wisdom of God, Seeing Jesus in the Psalms and Wisdom Books by Nancy Guthrie.  It's kind of a grown up version of the Jesus Storybook Bible.  It's a kids Bible in which they emphasize that 'Every story whispers His name...'  And every time I read out of it to anyone whether it's Wyatt or a Sunday school class, I tear up.  And all the kids think Ms. Meredith is a little cooky.  But it is that sweet and full of truth.  Needless to say I'm excited about our study.

So bring it on Fall!

Even the east Texas version.  My fall wreath is up.  Just in case you'd like to cool down, Texas.
